Ouch!!

Monday, April 15th, 2013

I had visions of getting into Chapter 1 of my new story, Blood Stone, today. Huh! Didn’t happen. Instead, I spent the morning at the dentist. Now, I don’t know about you, but this is not my favourite place to visit. In fact, I’m a chicken when it comes to the dentist. But I really didn’t have a choice. Today was the preparation day for a crown I’m having done after I broke the whole side of a tooth off. I can’t believe I broke a tooth eating a carrot stick. *shaking head here* I mean, you try and do healthy stuff and look what happens.  I would have been better to eat the chocolate. lol

So prep is now done and the crown will be fitted in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, my jaw aches like you wouldn’t believe. I didn’t feel anything while it was being done, but now the numbness has worn of, my jaw is as sore as. I’m guessing it’s only bruising from the dentist pushing down on the tooth, so here’s hoping it subsides quickly. I certainly wasn’t in the mood for writing when I got home. So instead, I spent the day on-line shopping for ribbon, jewelry findings and beads etc so I can make some new, funky bookmarks and bookthongs for the release of my new book, Hidden Fire, when it comes out 1st June.  I’ll post photos when they’re done and let you know how you can score one.

And now I’m taking a couple of pain pills and heading off to bed.

Night all.

HIDDEN FIRE

RELEASING 1st JUNE

ESCAPE PUBLISHING

BLURB

When American Museum Curator Gili Adams’ sleazy boss, Jeremy, threatens her parents and forces her to travel to Australia in search of an opal called the Dreamtime Fire, Gili is willing to face anything to protect her folks, even the evil spirit trapped inside an ancient Persian ring, a ring Jeremy just happens to be wearing. If that’s not bad enough, she has to enlist the help of anthropologist Morgan Hunt, the Guardian of the opal and the man who once accused her of stealing that ring. Now she has no choice: lie to the man she still cares about or risk her parents’ lives. Nothing can stand in her way, not even her own heart.

Morgan isn’t happy to see Gili. Six years ago, she ripped his heart to pieces; he’s not about to volunteer for a repeat performance. Neither will he allow her to waltz off with a gemstone sacred to the aboriginal people. But even with the help of the ancestral ghosts guarding the mine, can he keep both Gili and the fire opal safe from paranormal forces beyond his control?

Exciting news this month. After a long break with writing to get my head back together after my husband Brian died, I’ve finally signed a new contract.

Hidden Fire, a Paranormal Romantic Suspense, has been contracted to Harlequin Escape Publishing. This is a full length book and will release on 1st June this year. That’s why we’ve been so busy with getting the edits done. The editor sent it off today to the assistant publisher for line edits and proofreading, so here’s hoping I haven’t missed anything.
This is releasing as an e-book so will be accessible to everyone. It’s the first of four books in a series and I need to have the next one done and submitted by August latest. So I really will be a busy girl.
Since I spoke to you last, I’ve been in and had Carpal Tunnel and Ulna Nerve Release surgery done. Thankfully, my right hand is almost back to normal. Lol Typing and doing edits with the left hand was an experience, let me tell you.
I don’t have cover art for Hidden Fire yet, but I can leave you with the blurb to tease your senses.

That’s me for the moment. Don’t forget to check out my new contest. It ties in with the new book.

Now I’m going to leave you with two of the people who helped keep my head above water over the last 2 years. My twin grandsons, Xavier and Caleb, born just after Brian died. I swear, the youngest of them, Caleb, is so like his granddad it’s not funny. These guys will certainly keep you on your toes.

Seductive scents…torrid suspense…

For Australian scientist Kyla Harris, danger is not her middle name, but when she invents cologne that acts as an aphrodisiac, she becomes embroiled in a CIA case. Sexy American agent Logan Matthews is assigned as her bodyguard when someone tries to steal her sensual formula. Kyla finally has the edge in the war of the sexes and Logan Matthews is her target. A little fun in bed…on the desk…in the Aussie bush—what better way to test her cologne?

It’s just a shame Logan’s only reacting because of the formula…or is he?
Ningaloo Nights Tracy Cooper-Posey
New York cop Sherry Abandonato cashes in her savings and dashes to Ningaloo in remote northwest Western Australia to find her sister who disappeared ten days ago. The only one with the skill to guide her to Derremawan is Mason Hayward, once an official guide with a reputation for getting people out of trouble, but now the town’s bad man.

In a searing afternoon of unexpected passion, Mason strikes a bargain. He’ll get her to Derremawan, if she agrees to go there with him unconditionally, on his terms and his conditions.

Sherry is astonished to find herself agreeing to the insane bargain, and worse, responding positively to the idea of three days of Mason Hayward dictating terms out under the Australian sun.

Timeless Wrath Lexxie Couper

Beatrice “Ricki” Sullivan is every man’s fantasy. Drop-dead gorgeous, she exudes a sensuality none can ignore. More than just a stunning face and body, she’s intelligent, kind, gentle…and madly, inexplicably in love with Evron, a man she’s known mere hours.

Evron McKenzie is troubled, struggling with undeniable anger that scorches through his veins. And the irrational feeling he is someone else, something more. Someone rich, powerful…someone to fear. But in Ricki’s arms, Evron may have finally found his place in the world. At last he is at peace.

So who is the seductive redhead who invades Evron’s dreams? Why does she urge him to touch a mysterious sculpture—a sculpture that seems to radiate death and sin? How can she make him hornier than he’s ever been in his life with just a look, and at the same time turn his anger into bloody, murderous rage? And, more frighteningly, why can’t he resist her?

DECEMBER CONTEST

Everyone likes goodies at Christmas, so this mouth I’m giving away a promo pack containing mouse pad, tote bag, luggage tag, pen, note pad, sticky notes, postcard and bookmarks. I did have a few other things like Ellora’s Cave playing cards etc in there as well, but unfortunately, had to remove them. The Australian Postal Service, in their great wisdom, has added an extra Ten Dollars to the normal cost of posting anything over 450 grams to the US. So from now on, I’m going to have to break my parcels up so they don’t weight over 450 grams. Maybe next time I can do the playing cards.

For this month though, to go in the draw, send me an email through my Contact page on my website. Don’t forget to put DECEMBER CONTEST in the comments section, along with your postal address. The winner will be announced early in January.
Good luck everyone.

Winner of the November Contest

The winner of a download of Stud Finders Incorporated is Colleen Conklin

Congratulations, Colleen, and thank you all for playing.

New Contest

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

I’ve just sent the info to my web mistress to be posted on my website so it’s not going to appear for a couple of days. But I wanted to let you know I have a new contest opening for the month of October.

This month I actually managed to find a little time to do something I love. Well, other than writing, that is. If I want to relax, I make jewelry. So this month I’m giving away a gold snake chain and faux pearl necklace to one lucky winner.
Send me an email through my Contact page on my website with your postal address included. Don’t forget to put OCTOBER CONTEST in the comments section. The winner will be announced early November.

Good luck everyone.

Winner of the September Contest

The winner of a print copy of Project: Man is Jody Faltys.

Congratulations, Jody, and thank you all for playing.

Strange Occupations

Monday, October 4th, 2010

I was working on an interview a few days ago and one of the questions I had to answer was what jobs I’d held in the past. It got me thinking about some of the strange and wonderful occupations out there. Not that I’ve had a lot of jobs. I started out working as a telephonist in a telephone exchange. This was back in the olden days when calls were connected by the telephonist grabbing a cord and plugging it into the hole corresponding to the number asked for. Looking back now, it’s a good thing it was a small exchange out in western Queensland here in Australia. Many more subscribers and I wouldn’t have been able to find the right hole.  Tough when you can’t find the right hole to fit something into, yes?

I’ve worked for the Army, driven 58 seater buses as part of my job as procurement and transport officer for an international boarding school, sold used cars, been a temp for an employment agency which involved going out to businesses that needed an office worker while someone else was on holidays, worked in a nursing home. But by far the funniest job was waitressing. Not that there’s anything funny about waitressing. It’s damned hard work. But at the time, I was working for the army and needed a second job because I was saving for a trip overseas. The restaurant was called Dirty Dick’s and had a medieval theme. All the female staff work long black skirts split clear up to the top of the thigh on one side. Fishnet stockings and high heels. White peasant blouse and one of those waist cinchers that pushed your boobs up until they almost spill out of the top of the blouse.

This night in particular I was carrying a large serving bowl of soup to the table and as I leaned over to place it on the table, the man on the end slid his hand into the slit in my skirt and groped me between the legs.  Now remember I was only 18 at the time. Today, my reaction may well be different. lol Anyway to cut a long story short, I upended the bowl of soup on his head. Needless to say, my boss wasn’t happy and neither was the customer. The boss sacked me for not being friendly enough to the customers. I mean, come on! I might have been dressed as a serving wench but that didn’t mean I had to play the part to that degree. I was pissed as hell at the time, but I can laugh about it now. In retrospect, it was funny to see that guy sitting there with soup running down his face. Thank God it was a cold tomato soup. lol

So what about you? What’s the funniest or strangest job you’ve ever held?

Nice news to wake up to.

I’ve just been informed that the Korean translation rights have been sold for How Do I Live Thee? Publication will take place in 2011, date to be advised.

How cool! I won’t be able to read it, but I can’t wait to see it translated into Korean.

Pack Rules by Alexis Fleming

Blurb:

Shapeshifters? Dangerously sexy men turning into wolves? Life sure gets interesting when Tori invites a stray dog into her home.

Excerpt:

Tori curled up on the couch and the dog immediately joined her. He cuddled close, his head up, tongue lolling out. ‘You might look like a fierce wolf, but you’re really a softie, aren’t you?’
The animal tried to lick her mouth again. She fended him off. ‘No more doggie spit. I think you’re cute, but I don’t like you that much. However, if you’re going to keep coming around, you need a name. Hmm, how about Rover?’
When the animal flashed his canines at her and shook his head, Tori roared with laughter. For a moment there, she actually thought he’d understood her. ‘Um, okay, Fido? No?’ This time a slight growl accompanied the movement of his head. ‘Blackie? Patch? Rollie?’
She threw her hands in the air at the dog’s continued negative response. ‘Wow, opinionated for a four-legged beast, aren’t you? You should meet Kaeden. You’d make a good pair.’ She chuckled. ‘There’s a thought. I’ll call you Kaeden. That should get a reaction from him when he knows I’ve named a mutt after him.’
Her new pet stretched his lips wide and made a strange raspy sound. His body shook, the hair ruffling around his neck. Damn, she’d swear he was laughing. ‘Okay, I guess Kaeden it is.’
Images of the two-legged Kaeden slid through her mind. For some reason, the dog reminded her of him. The amber eyes. The cocky attitude. A real alpha personality. She lifted her hand and dragged her fingers across her lips. The imprint of his mouth remained, like a fiery brand on her skin.
She shivered, sensation overwhelming her. Her thoughts took on a decidedly raunchy edge. One little kiss, and here she was, acting like a teenager with her first crush. Heat gathered inside her, spread out to encompass her entire body. Her skin felt tight. Her breasts ached. Tension gripped her, demanding release.
‘Enough already!’ She jumped to her feet, waving a hand in front of her face to cool herself down. She had to stop thinking of Kaeden like this. He’d never given her any indication he wanted to be any more than a friend, and maybe not even that at times.
Well, except for that kiss.
‘Get over it, girl.’ Stalking across to the sideboard, she grabbed a packet of flea-control pipettes and rejoined the dog on the couch. She snapped the end off one of the vials and patted her lap. ‘Okay, K-that’s your new nickname, by the way. I can’t keep calling you Kaeden. It ties me in knots every time I hear his name. Now, let’s get this sorted out. Put your head down here.’
K lowered his head to her lap, wriggling to get comfortable. He snuffled a time or two until Tori tapped him lightly on the tip of his nose. ‘No sniffing, remember.’ Spreading the thick fur on his neck, she poured the contents of the pipette on the skin. The animal whimpered as if in pain.
‘Don’t be such a wuss. It doesn’t hurt. Now.’ She scratched him behind the ear. ‘I’ll keep you inside tonight and tomorrow I’ll take you over to the surgery. If you’re going to stay with me you have to be fixed.’
The dog raised its head and stared at her, his lips pulled back, a soft growl coming from its throat.
‘Don’t look at me like that. I don’t want you out there tom-catting around. Okay, so dogs don’t tom-cat, but you know what I mean. So tomorrow you get the chop, you hear?’
K bounded off the couch and skidded across the polished floor. He hit the door with a thump, the timber vibrating with the force of the impact. Then he started to scratch to get out.
Before Tori could get to the door, he threw himself against it again. ‘What’s wrong with you? It’s one tiny little snip.’
Mouth opened, head raised, the dog howled. The hair on Tori’s arms stood up, goosebumps pebbled her skin. She opened her mouth to tell him to calm down then snapped it shut as shock splintered through her.
The air around K wavered, circled about the beast and reshaped itself. Like ripples in a pond spreading out from a central point when the surface is disturbed. Sparks shot out from his body, hung in the air a moment and then disappeared. Heat swelled and surrounded him, hot enough for Tori to feel it on her face. His body twisted. Limbs contracted before lengthening, changing. Growls issued from his mouth and the hair on his body receded, leaving behind tanned flesh. The last thing to change was the elongated snout.
Fear clawed at Tori’s gut. The breath strangled in her throat and she fought to drag fresh air into her lungs. She didn’t know whether to run in horror, or stay and confront whatever was happening.
With a final burst of flickering light, it was over. Instead of K the dog, there stood Kaeden the man. Naked!
He advanced on her. Tori backed up until the edge of the couch hit her behind the knees. She blinked her eyes and lifted her hands to her head, squeezing, trying to make her brain function.
Kaeden stopped within an inch of her. ‘Just so you know, ain’t no-one coming anywhere near my family jewels. You start talking the chop and I’ll start biting. Got that?’ He tapped the end of her nose with one long, human finger. ‘And just for the record? I don’t have fleas.’
Tori flopped backwards onto the couch, legs splayed, hands hanging limply between her spread thighs. ‘Holy freakin’ nightmares! Toto, I think we just left Kansas.’
